Tennessee Records: Tombstone Inscriptions and Manuscripts; by Jeannette Tillotson Acklen; 538 pp; Paper; 5.5x8.5; Published: 1933, Reprinted: 2007; index; ISBN: 0788421441; Item # HBA2144.
This is the companion to Tennessee Records: Bible Records and Marriage Bonds. A valuable source book for many, the data contained herein has been drawn from family Bibles, tombstones, diaries, letters and other manuscripts, county records, and various other sources. In addition to an exhaustive listing of tombstone inscriptions, one will find some interesting historical and biographical sketches within these pages. The mortuary inscriptions, in most cases, provide the name of the deceased and dates of birth and death. Many contain the names of other family members: spouse, children, or parents. Pictures of memorial tablets for the graves of Colonels James Robertson and John Donelson appear, as do several portraits of people who have been laid to rest in the given cemeteries. This work comes complete with an original surname index with 12,500 entries.
