OLD KING COAL. The Pierce County Mining District, Louis Jacobin, 52 pages 8½ x 11. This promotional piece was first published by Louis Jacobin as the “Industrial Number” of the “Wilkeson Record” in December of 1917. Many of the businesses of Wilkeson, Carbonado, Fairfax and South Prairie are described in detail. There is good detail on the mines and how they operated. There is a biographical section called “who’s who in the mining district.” Many people are mentioned, some in detail. The pictures are a bit dark, as the book was copied from an original, printed on aluminum plates, and later converted to electronic files. A good read, with lots of information over 110 years old!
