A history of Wilkeson, Carbonado, Burnett, Pittsburg (Spiketon or Morristown), Fairfax, Melmont, Montezuma, and Manley-Moore. These were Pierce County mining and logging towns which once flourished in the upper Carbon River area of Washington State.
This is a reprint of the edited reissue of the classic work done by Nancy Hall in 1980. Carbon River Coal Country is a light history of the 9 mining towns in the upper Carbon River section of Pierce County, Washington. Burnett, Wilkeson, and Carbonado are the only towns left in this area, the others having almost completely vanished, but the memories of what happened there carry on in the minds of some of those who were born there. There is much oral history with stories that can’t be found elsewhere, along with nearly 150 full-page illustrations.
