1918 WASHINGTON STATE PLACE NAME INDEX

Originally called the “New Authentic Geographical and Industrial Survey of the State of Washington. 88 pages 8½ x 5½. This little reprint contains the names of over 4,750 cities, town, post offices, boat landings, and points of interest in Washington State, many of which had ceased to exist in 1918. Each location has a description of where it is in relation to other known places and lists the elevation, population and public services provided at the time. It also lists name changes. About 50% of this book is made up of detailed description of the counties: items of interest such as population, lands, soil, prices of land, resources and industries, water, transportation, wages, social condition, and homestead lands available at the time of publication. The index is coded to a Heald-Meneary map which of which I’ve only found one, printed on an oilcloth-like substance, and it had chipped away at the folds, so wasn’t worth much, But I’ve located other Heald-Menery maps that worked out with this index. I’ve included the locations names found in this book to give you an idea of the tremendous amount of information presented.
